We can also do it" / « Nous le pouvons aussi »

Coming up this Wednesday, March, 28 at 22:30 EET* (Eastern European Time or GMT+2) the Bulgarian Guide Dog School is featured in the 30-minute-long program, entitled “We’re good at it, too”. The show is aired on the satellite program “TV Bulgaria”. The mastermind of the project is Nikolina Dimitrova, well-known for her work on the remarkable “Dalekogled” (“Telescope”, as farseeing), broadcasted on The Bulgarian National Television, Channel 1. And if originally it was bringing into focus foreigners, who live in Bulgaria, revealing their conceptions about our lifestyle, our way of thinking, our make-up and our the culture, subsequently it shifted the standpoint and began to inquire the motivation of those Bulgarians who had lived and worked abroad, but who (also) had decided to return home. “We’re good at it, too” seeks to establish, by means of a practical example, that the competitive spirit and the high standards are representative for us as well. The program is supposed to be subtitled in English. The rerun is set for Saturday, March 31st, 18h30. Be sure not to miss it!

2 / At the vet's office - 2 / Chez le vétérinaire - 2

Lick!Lick!Lick! / Lèche! Lèche! Lèche!

Dim glory pursue the people wearing scrubs – they usually appear when you’re feeling a little bit under the weather. Despite his reputation of being …hmm-m-m… a “beast”, who hampers the immoderate burgeoning of maladies, this veterinary follower of Avicenna, in green scrubs, has a special place in Glory’s heart. And every visit at the vet’s office, amazingly, goes along with unutterable joy. Here’s the proof:

The serene pre-spring mood was flawed by the uninvited interloper, who goes by the name of Demodecosis, looking for a free meal. Literally! It’s a common skin disease, not contagious though, caused by a microscopic mite, also known as demodex canis. It is visible under the microscope. And if it’s so unsightly we’ll have none of it.

Red and white / Le rouge et le blanc

С

Baba Marta (Баба Марта, meaning Grandmother Martha in Bulgarian) is the name of a traditional Bulgarian custom, celebrated on March 1 each year, symbolizing the coming of the spring season. According to the tradition, The “Baba” is an old lady who’s quickly changing her mood. On March 1 Bulgarians wear and give “martenitsi” (referring to the month of March) as a mascot. Some people knit it, others stitch it. People make pompons, bracelets, tassels, and Pijo (male) and Penda (female) figures. In the past they’d spin the wool and dye it with herbs. Nowadays there is a variety of colours and modifications. As the legend goes the white embodies the purity and longevity and the red represents health. The two colours also symbolize salubrity. It’s a wonderful tradition celebrated like this only in Bulgaria! Generally people keep the martenitsa on their clothes or rolled around their wrists, until they see a stork and then they tie it on a tree for a good harvest. The spring associates with nice things like health, love, happiness and sunshine. I wish you all of these and more! Chestita Baba Marta! = Happy Baba Marta!
